Two companies, one logo
This is the fact that separates a smart RIDGID purchase from a mistake.
Ridge Tool Company — Elyria, Ohio, owned by Emerson — makes the plumbing and pipe trades tools: pipe wrenches, threaders, cutters, ProPress, SeeSnake cameras, drain machines. This is the RIDGID plumbers mean. Most of it is US-made, much of it is warrantied for life against defects regardless of owner, and it holds up for decades.
RIDGID power tools — the orange 18V drills, saws and shop vacs sold at Home Depot — are made by TTI (the company behind Milwaukee and Ryobi) under license from Emerson. They're decent tools. They are not Ridge Tool products, and their warranty story is completely different.
On eBay, both show up under "RIDGID." A used 24" pipe wrench and a used R86037 drill have nothing in common except the name.
The Lifetime Service Agreement trap
RIDGID's orange power tools are famous for the Lifetime Service Agreement — free parts, service and batteries for life. It's real, and it's why people buy them new. But it applies only to the original purchaser, who must register within 90 days with the receipt. It does not transfer. A used orange RIDGID tool has, at best, the standard 3-year warranty (also tied to the original buyer), and realistically none.
Sellers sometimes list these as "lifetime warranty" tools. They aren't, to you. Price them as ordinary used cordless — which, in fairness, makes them a good buy, because the market discounts them for exactly this reason.
Where the value is
Ridge Tool hand tools — pipe wrenches, tubing cutters, basin wrenches — are cheap used and last essentially forever. They're the best buy in the brand. ProPress is where the money is at risk: a well-serviced RP 340 with jaws is a huge saving over new, and a neglected one is a trap. The orange cordless line is fair value because the market discounts it for the non-transferable LSA.

Does the RIDGID Lifetime Service Agreement transfer to a second owner?
No. It applies only to the original purchaser who registered within 90 days. A used orange RIDGID cordless tool has no LSA. Price it as ordinary used power tool.
Are RIDGID pipe wrenches and RIDGID drills made by the same company?
No. Pipe wrenches, threaders and ProPress are Ridge Tool Company (Emerson). The orange 18V power tools are made by TTI under license. Different products, different warranties.
What should I check before buying a used ProPress?
Cycle count and service history first — press tools need factory service at intervals. Then which jaws are included and their condition. A tool without jaws is a lot less useful than the price suggests.
