Used Hilti Tools

Direct-sales brand with a fleet-rental model, which means the used market is full of ex-fleet tools — and, unfortunately, stolen ones. Check the serial before anything else.

📈 Current listings pulled: $30 – $600 • Updated September 5, 2026

TE 6, TE 30, TE 50, TE 70 and their cordless -A22 versions. The reason people buy Hilti. Check the SDS chuck, the depth gauge, and — on cordless — which battery generation. Ask for the serial.

Cordless Drills & Drivers

SF and SFC drills, SID impact drivers, SIW impact wrenches. Confirm whether it's Nuron (B 22 batteries) or legacy 22V before bidding — the batteries don't cross.

DX 460, DX 5, DX 351, DX 36. Fastening tools that use cartridges. Check the piston and buffer, and know your local rules — some jurisdictions require operator certification.

B 22 Nuron packs and older B 22/2.6, B 22/5.2, B 36 packs. Age matters. Hilti packs are less counterfeited than the big consumer brands, but check date codes.

How Hilti sells, and what it means used

Hilti doesn't sell through hardware stores. It sells direct — through its own reps, its own stores, and its website — and a large share of its business is fleet management: contractors lease tools on a monthly fee, and Hilti swaps them out on a schedule. That model shapes the used market in two ways.

First, a lot of used Hilti is ex-fleet: tools that came off a lease and were sold on. These are often heavily used but well maintained, because Hilti serviced them during the lease. Fleet tools are frequently marked — a sticker, an engraving, a colored band. Not a problem in itself; it just tells you the tool's history.

Second, and less pleasant: Hilti tools are stolen from job sites at a rate that would surprise you, and some of that ends up on eBay. Hilti keeps serial records and will tell you if a tool is reported stolen. Ask the seller for the serial number before you buy, and check it. A seller who won't provide it is telling you something.

Nuron vs the old 22V — the battery split

Hilti's current platform is Nuron, a 22V system introduced in the early 2020s with new B 22 batteries. The older 22V line — tools with -A22 in the name, batteries like B 22/5.2 — uses a different interface. Nuron batteries don't fit legacy 22V tools, and legacy packs don't fit Nuron tools. There's also an older 36V line (-A36, B 36 batteries) that's its own thing.

Used Hilti is currently a mix of all three, and the legacy 22V tools are getting cheap because buyers are moving to Nuron. That's an opportunity if you're building on the legacy platform and a trap if you assumed everything 22V interchanges.

Warranty and service

Hilti's lifetime service program covers manufacturing defects and, for a period after purchase, wear-and-tear repairs at no cost, followed by a cap on repair costs. It's tied to the original purchaser and registration. A used buyer shouldn't expect it. What you can expect is that Hilti will still service the tool for a fee, and their repair centers are good. Budget for that on any used Hilti with heavy fleet hours.

DX tools: a note on the rules

Powder-actuated tools use explosive cartridges. Many jurisdictions require operator certification, and Hilti's own training is easy to get. Cartridges and fasteners are sold through Hilti and its distributors. Before buying a used DX, know that you'll need cartridges of the right load and whether your area requires a card to buy them. Check the piston for mushrooming and the buffer for cracks — both are wear items.

What to inspect

  • Serial number. Get it, check it with Hilti. Non-negotiable.
  • Battery generation. Nuron (-22) or legacy (-A22/-A36). Don't assume.
  • SDS chuck on TE hammers. Bit locks and releases cleanly. Hilti chucks are rebuildable but not cheap.
  • ATC clutch on tools that have it — ask if it's ever tripped and reset properly.
  • Fleet markings. Not bad, but tells you the tool worked hard. Ask about service history.
  • Housing and gear case — Hilti tools get dropped from scaffolds. Look for cracks around the battery mount and handle.

Where the value is

Legacy -A22 tools with a couple of good batteries, from a seller clearing out after moving to Nuron. The tools are excellent and the market is discounting them for platform reasons, not quality reasons. Corded TE hammers are the other steady value — a TE 70 or TE 1000 runs for a very long time and there's no battery to worry about.

Common questions about used Hilti

Do Nuron batteries fit older Hilti 22V tools?

No. Nuron B 22 packs and the legacy -A22 tools use different interfaces. Same voltage, no cross-compatibility. Check the model suffix: -22 is Nuron, -A22 is legacy.

How do I check if a used Hilti is stolen?

Ask the seller for the serial number and contact Hilti — they keep records and will tell you if it's been reported. A seller who won't give you the serial is a seller to skip.

What does ATC mean on a Hilti hammer?

Active Torque Control — an electronic clutch that stops the tool if the bit binds and the body starts to spin. Worth paying for on larger rotary hammers. AVR is vibration reduction; DRS is dust removal.
